Jonathan and Candice are currently serving with Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) at Rajabhat University in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Our decision to return to Thailand is something that God has brought about in our lives as a result of our individual times spent in the country. Jonathan had the opportunity in 2003 to spend six weeks in Bangkok with CCC, sharing the gospel with Thai students. Throughout the summer, he developed a heart for the Thai people and recognized the great need they have for Christ. Similarly, Candice had an opportunity in 2005 to spend a week in southern Thailand with CCC helping with the clean-up following the tsunami. She had opportunities to share the love of Christ with those affected by the tragedy. Though only there for a week, she developed a passion for the Thai people. God used both of these experiences to plant within us the desire to return longer term.
We both enjoy reading, traveling, running, music and classic reruns of I Love Lucy.
Campus Crusade for Christ is an inter-denominational, international Christian ministry with the vision to turn lost students into Christ-centered laborers. Through being involved with CCC in college and being personally impacted, we have been drawn to this ministry because of its alignment with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) of making disciples by winning people for Christ, building them in their faith, and sending them with the gospel to do the same in their areas of influence.
During our time in Thailand, we will be working to share Christ with students on the college campus. We will daily initiate conversations on campus, have outreaches to meet more students, as well as teach students about Christ through one-on-one discipleship and Bible studies. We will also be doing tsunami relief and Jesus Film Projects in other areas of Thailand during university holidays and breaks.
As Thailand is 95% Buddhist, we are taking the gospel to a country that has known very little of God’s truth in Christ. But, we are extremely hopeful as we have begun to see the tide turn and Thai’s responding to Christ like never before.
Our key target city is Chiang Mai (in Northern Thailand), which has 4 universities. We will be working alongside the national Thai staff and their existing ministry at Rajabhat University. As Americans, it is natural for the Thai’s to want to talk to us. So, we will be taking every opportunity to share our message of hope with all who will listen.
