Sawat-dee ka (Thai Greeting) and Welcome to ReachThailand.com!
As Thailand has unleashed its “hot season,” we have grown in appreciation for the air-conditioner in our bedroom, have learned how to strategically place fans throughout the house to keep the air circulating, and have been busy staying in the shade as much as possible getting ready for our last couple months of ministry on this side of the world.
Since campus has been out, we have been asked to help the Thai Staff in special projects that they have in Chiang Mai, and assist in other ways to prepare for the new school semester.
We attended the annual Thai Staff Conference in mid April. This is a very special and important time for the staff as they get to fellowship with other staff members from all over the country, receive encouragement and teaching from the excellent speakers, participate in worship led by the CCC praise team, and get to catch up on rest in preparation for the coming months of ministry. The conference was held in Ranong, Thailand just an hour drive from a beautiful beach! We enjoyed spending time with the staff, and as always, were so encouraged by their heart and excitement to serve the Lord in campus ministry. The last night of the conference was a very special night. The staff “trainees” that have completed a one-year internship with TCCC were introduced officially as new staff at a banquet that involved dinner, traditional Thai costumes, worship and a commissioning. Later that night, we were able to pray over the seven new staff members and send them out as they begin this new chapter of their life. We are very thankful that we were able to be a part of this conference, it was so encouraging to hear reports of what God is doing through TCCC across the country and in the lives of the staff members.
Back in Chiang Mai, we were delighted to have the opportunity to serve the staff over the last couple of weeks by helping them with their English. Currently, many of the Thai staff are working on support raising for the upcoming year. Many of them have lost supporters over the course of the past year and need to meet with potential supporters to share about their ministry and financial needs. Oftentimes, they have the opportunity to either correspond with potential supporters who live in America or meet with English speaking people who are living here in Thailand who are interested in hearing more about TCCC. Since many of the staff do not have materials to help present information on their ministry in English, we took the opportunity to help them improve or develop newsletters, brochures, prayer letters and support letters. For one week, we had the staff sign up for a time slot to meet with us one-on-one and get special help with their English skills. It was a great time of encouragement for them and for us as we were able to spend time with them and help fulfill a need that they have.
In the following weeks, we will be making preparations for an incoming team of American college students that will be in Thailand for a six week “Summer Project” (a short term mission trip with CCC). We will be helping with their training and orientation for the project, and will join them on a trip to the South of Thailand for continued Tsunami Relief work on islands that are still dealing with the effects of the disaster that happened over three years ago.
We are so thankful for your love and support of us. You all are such a blessing to us, and we are greatly encouraged by your ongoing prayers for us and the staff with Thailand CCC. We pray that you are doing well and growing in the love and knowledge of our Savior.
Much Love,
Jonathan & Candice
1 Thessalonians 2:8
- That the upcoming weeks would be a time of focus and preparation for the incoming Summer Project and the first weeks back to campus.
- That God would use the Summer Project Team in a unique way to reach lost students.
- We had such a great time seeing our family and showing them around some of the great sights of Thailand.
- Seven “trainees” joined TCCC staff this year! They will be such an amazing asset for the campus ministry in Thailand.
