Sawat-dee ka (Thai Greeting) and Welcome to ReachThailand.com!
Sawat-dee Ka!
Thank you for you continued prayers for us over the last month as we were preparing and hosting the CM 2007 conference in Chiang Mai. The Lord used this conference in a significant way in hundreds of students' lives and inspired many to develop a greater heart and vision for reaching Thailand on behalf of Christ. We have posted a great deal of pictures on our website, www.ReachThialand.com, that tell the story of this exciting four day experience, and will write a more complete update on the conference, and some of our students who joined us in our next month's update.
Several weeks ago, our team did an outreach on campus during finals week. The students were very busy and focused with studying for tests, so we decided to do an outreach that would require very little of the students' time. We created 'happy bags' which were small bags filled with candy, cookies and the Four Laws. During the week of finals, we would hand out these bags to students who were studying between tests. We were very pleased with this outreach as we were able to meet and interact with students by serving and blessing them. During this outreach, Jonathan and one of the Korean STINT girls, Yindee, met a girl named Gift. Gift informed them that she was a Christian already, but had not been able to connect with others who too shared faith in Jesus. Jonathan wrote down Gift's name and phone number and later gave it to Candice. The following two weeks, we were not on campus because of our Leadership Training Camp, so Candice was not able to touch base with Gift. However, when we returned to campus at the beginning of November, Candice called Gift and set up a time to get together. Gift was so excited to hear from Candice and scheduled to meet with her the following day. During the time that Candice has spent with Gift, she has been very encouraged by Gift's faith and love for the Lord. Gift became a Christian about a year ago when a friend who was visiting told her about God. Since then she has not found a way to grow in her faith or learn more about what it means to have a relationship with God. Gift's parents are not Christians and are very antagonistic toward Christianity; therefore, Gift has never told them that she is a Christian. She hides all evidence of her faith for fear of being made to leave her home. One of the first things that she told Candice during their time together was that she 'prays all the time that her parents will come to know the Lord.' Gift has been a great encouragement to Candice as she is so committed to her relationship with God and her faith is so strong despite the fact that she is very alone and does not have any support or teaching. We are very excited at the fact that she will soon have access to teaching and fellowship. Gift expressed much excitement at the chance to learn more about God by meeting to study the Bible each week with Candice. They have begun to study the Bible together and Gift is eager to learn about who God is and how she can serve Him with her life. She wants to connect with a community of believers and Thailand Campus Crusade for Christ is a great place for her to be able to do that. We are so thankful for your prayers and support as both are vital parts of helping students like Gift learn how to deepen their relationship with God and begin to share their faith with their friends and family.
This time of year has brought about many feelings and emotions for us of missing home and feeling so far away from family, friends and the Oklahoma weather. In the midst of it, however, we have been truly blessed to reflect over the great amount of support, encouragement and love we have experienced from each of you on our journey so far this year.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We hope you have a very Merry Christmas reflecting on all the blessings our God so graciously gives.
Much love,
Jonathan and Candice
