March 2008 Update

Sawatdee Ka!
We are back and had an amazing time at Thai Summer Project. This year, the Thai CCC Staff approached this annual trip a bit differently. They titled it, ‘The Bethlehem Project,” and the idea was to go with students to their hometown villages and share Christ with their family and friends. Candice and I joined a team of a few other staff members and four students with whom we would visit their own homes over a period of five days to share the good news of Jesus.

Like every outing in Thailand there is always an element of surprise and adventure around every corner. To reach our first stop we spent about eight hours, most of which was on a dirt road, leading us to what truly felt like the middle of nowhere. We probably would have made it sooner, but our truck ran out of gas midway through the trip miles away from the nearest sign of civilization. The first night our team was exhausted (and covered in dirt), but we had been connected to a local church in the village in which we partnered to share the Jesus film with over 100 villagers who were in attendance. Many children that were present were able to hear the story of Jesus for the first time and several placed their faith in Him.

Over the next several days we traveled to several different student homes and experienced Thai culture and daily living from the inside out. While every stop had special significance, we were most touched by visiting the home of our student Bas. She has been a Christian for less than a year, and had asked if we could visit her family on this trip because she wanted them to know God personally in the same way she did. Her close-knit family was gracious and hospitable to host our team for a night. That evening we put on a program inside their home with songs, skits and a showing of the Jesus Film. We remember being so touched as we watched Bas as she took the steps of faith to present the Gospel to her family (aunts, uncles, parents, siblings and grandma) without reservation. We were impacted to see the courage of this student as she stood up for the sake of the Gospel in her own home, even though no one in her family shared her same faith in Christ.

Seven teams in all, of staff and students, were sent out sharing the Gospel in villages throughout Northern Thailand during Thai Summer Project. At the end of the week were able to reflect over the ways God had provided and worked through our teams. Forty families were visited, 473 people heard the Gospel and nearly 200 indicated making a decision of placing their faith in Christ. It is evident that God truly blesses as we step out in faith, trusting Him for the results. Thank you for your prayers for our team and us as we got to be a part of this life-changing project.

We are so thankful for your encouragement and prayers – they keep us going. We would love to hear updates about life and ways that we can be better praying for you and your family.

Much Love,
Jonathan & Candice
1 Thessalonians 2:8

Prayer Requests:

  • That people who accepted Christ through the Thai Summer Project would be able to continue connecting with a local church to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ.
  • That throughout the school break, our students would continue to be growing in relationship with Jesus.
Praises:
  • Thai Summer Project was an incredible faith-growing experience for the many students who attended.
  • Our family arrived in Thailand! It has been so good to see them and get to show them around some of our favorite places!
